Places to visit
Dilwara temples
Exquisitely carved in white marble this set of temples reflects sheer elegance in architecture. These temples are dedicated to Jain Tirthankars and date back to 11to 13th century A.D. There are five temples namely-Shri Adinathji temple, Shri Neminathji temple, Shri Rishabh deo ji temple,Shri Pasarvanathji temple and Shri mahavir swamiji temple.
Adhar devi temple
Height of about 360 stairs lead to this shrine dedicated to goddess. The temple is chiselled out of a huge rock.
Nakki Lake
This lake is perhaps the most romantic spot of Mount Abu. Nestled midst the verdant hills this man made lake at the height of 11000 ft owes it's magnetic charm not only to the impeccable beauty but also to the folklore woven around it.
Toad Rock
A toad shaped rock looking over the Nakki lake is the unique feature of Mount Abu. It's kind of identification mark of the place.Sitting on the top it as if keeps an eye on whole of the Mount Abu. Mount Abu abounds in different shaped rocks sculpted by nature.
Sunset Point
Mount Abu has many beautiful gardens and parks in it's vicinity. Few of these are Shaitan singh park, Municipal park, Gandhi park, terrace garden. Parks have sylvan surrounding and provide beautiful view of nature all around. Two important view points to seep in the pristine beauty of the place are sunset point and Andra view point. Andra view point is also known as Honeymoon point. Here are two natural formation of rocks in the shape of man and woman.
There are many other attractions to this place but one certainly worth mentioning are the colorful festivals celebrated in Mount Abu. Of the various like Gangaur, patotsav the most popular one is summer festival celebrated in the month of june. Summer festival showcases colorful folk dances, songs and other art forms of lively Rajsthan.The enthralling performances, brilliant display of fireworks, various kinds of races make the place pulsating with life.
Excursions
Achalgarh fort
This fort is about 8 km away from the city.The fort is accessable by motorable road. Having beautiful jain temples. This fort was built by Rana kumbha. Inside the fort is Achleshwar Mahadeva temple. This temple also has mythological tales related to it. The idol of Nandi made of five alloys namely gold, silver, copper, brass and zinc is one of it's kind. There are also some important Jain temples inside fort. Kantinath jain temple is gold plated.The temples date back to 14th and 15th century A.D.
Trevor's tank
The place is hardly five km away from the city.It is bird watcher's paradise. surrounded by dense and cool vegetation it attracts many kind of birds as well as animals. It is named after Col.Trevor.
Guru Shikhar
Guru Shikhar is about 15 km away from the main city.The peak offers a commanding view of surrounding area. There is a temple of Dattatreya and also a small shaivite shrine.
How to reach
Airways - Udaipur's Maharana Pratap Airport is the nearest one. From there one has to opt for various road transport available.
Rail ways - Mount Abu has a well connected railway station from there it takes almost 2 hours drive up to the hills. The railway station is connected to major cities like Ahmedabad, Mumbai and all other big cities of Rajasthan.
Local Transport - Auto rickshaws, city buses, tourist buses and those tonga and horse carts with antique charm.
